In this nine weeks long project, I created a user interface for a medicine reminder app and perform activities like conducting competitive audit, creating wireframes and prototypes, and conducting usability test to find pain points in the design and iterate over it

The goal of the project is to develop a tool accessible to user of all background and age so that the tool can contribute to healthy lives of the people

Research

We are designing an app to help patients remember their medicine. According to a research, most people doesn’t get treated well because they either don’t take medicine or miss it. We are conducted this research to identify frustration patients feel forgetting medicine and during using of other medicine reminder applications

Research Goals

What are the pain points that user feel using other medicine reminder app?

Is the medicine adding process easy for people of all ages?

What the team can learn from the user app flow?

What automation should be included to further simplify the process?

Competitive Audit

I conducted competitive audit to find key competitors of the tool and identify their strenght and weakness while providing the same service to user. What makes them standout in the market and what are setbacks that user face while using their app. Three competitors were identified including Mediface, RoundHealth, and DoseCast.

Pain points indentified

I created two personas for the project representing finctional characters that will use the app. Oscar is a frontend developer who neds to keep track of hish medication because of his busy work schedule

Jessica is a bakery owner who needs tool to help her remind medicine because she often forgets to take them, maybe because of the age

Design Process

I created a sitemap representing the structure of the website.

User Flow

Digital Wireframes

After creating initial design of the tool through some paper wireframes, I created initial design of how the tool will look and work. These designs were based on the user research and competitive audit results
The most important activity or function is placed on the top of the homepage app

Two factor verification option is provided to user for login and transactions verification making their account more secure and less vulnerable to cyber attacks

Low Fidelity Prototype

For usability tests, I created a low-fidelity prototype of the project that represented the complete flow of the app. It will help me to get user feedback and iterate the design based on it

Usability Test

I conducted an unmoderated usability test containing 6 participants, three females and three male. One was a crypto trader, one was a investor, two were stock traders, and two were random crypto beginners

The following tasks were assigned

  • Sign up with MediAlert
  • Add an ibuprofen medicine reminder
  • Book an appointment with Doctor Jessica
  • Overall, how easy the overall app flow was?

Findings

One round of usability study, for low-fidelity prototype, was conducted. The findings of the usability study helped in refining and iterating over the digital wireframes to improve user experience

  1. Most users were confused about the use of trending medicine menu option
  2. Some users were frustrated by the long medicine adding process
  3. Some users were frustrated by the long medicine adding process

Affinity Diagram

An affinity diagram was created based on the notes taken during the usability which was used to organise the notes based on their relationship

Mockups

Based on the usability study findings, the designs were iterated over and tweaks were done to improve the user experience of the tool. Different principles of Gestwalt Principles

High Fidelity Prototype

I created a high fidelity app that represents the final version of the app. Stock photos to represent the content and theme of the project
